This is an extraordinary
story of courage and
survival in the darkest days
of World War II.
Susan Gimesy was just
15 when war came to her native Hungary. Suddenly she was swept up into all
the horrors of the Holocaust.
In her memoir, she tells how she and other Jewish
people struggled to survive in those years. After
the war, she made a daring escape from Soviet
controlled Hungary and became one of Europe’s
vast numbers of refugees.
She finally emigrated to Australia where she
began life as ‘a new Australian’. Her life story
continues to be dramatic and colourful. Though
swept about by the great tides of history in the
20th century, she now lives happily in Melbourne enjoying the loving circle of her family, including her four grandchildren.
