Noel Spurr’s story exemplifies the
best of human nature, achieving great things when you put your mind to it.
Brought up by loving parents in
the Whitehorse municipality, and
inspite of the hardships caused
from contracting polio at the age of 8, Noel has enjoyed a wonderful personal life and an illustrious career.
Noel’s passion is actively campaigning for the rights of the disabled and this has led to his involvement with many committees and disabled rights groups such as
Australian Lobby for Physically Handicapped Adults, and Australian Ventilators Users Network.
Serving the community has been the backbone of Noel’s career, working in The Department of Public Works, Councillor in Nunawading and later Whitehorse
Councils and the last Mayor of Nunawading.
These words from Rosemary Hooke best describe Noel Spurr, “Noel is a pivotal person. Defined in childhood by polio, that dramatic medical story of our generation; with
sheer endurance, remarkable family and community support he becomes a leader, a conscience, a supernetworker.”
