A Journey Through Life is Don Weber’s random collection of reminiscences and accounts of events and adventures that filled nine decades of his life.
Born in Victoria, Don loses his mother at the age of three, and his father at the age of 14. He is raised in Melbourne by his step mother and his siblings. Jobs after school include working in a knitting factory, making rifle butts at home for the armed forces in WWII, joining the Australian Volunteer Fire Service, as well as keeping bees and suffering their stings.
He marries Helena in 1940, with whom he raises their two children; eight years later, they sell their home and take up farming in Pakenham Upper.
Part two of the book takes us on many years’ journeys he and Helena take in their caravan across Australia, from the coast to the outback and to places like Noccundra in Queensland with a population of just four people.
His descriptions of events and places bear the mark of a keen eye developed through his passion for photography, travel and observation.
